Hey all,

We love the simplicity and function of Prime on an IPad but aren't satisfied with the quality from the headphone jack. Anybody using a high quality DAC or interface to get loops from an Apple device to their board? Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi Lucas,
You said it's coming from the headphone jack where and how are you connecting it to the other end?

I use an iConnectivity iConnectAudio4+. It has a lightning connector and also works as a Midi interface as well.

Hmmm where on the desk are you plugging in?, are you running it from your iPad on stage to the desk at the back and how far away is your desk? If it's a long distance are you using shielded cables?
Tbh I've had success with just my iPad direct into my desk without a interface whilst on stage , I've also had someone controlling prime for me at the desk end without issues.

Just a TRS to XLR male patch cord from the back of the interface into the snake.

First of all I would try plugging it in right next to your mixer and see if the sound improves , it could be that you are losing quality if traveling over a long distance. If it does improve then obviousely it's a cable quality issue , if your going direct into a xlr or mono input try running it in stereo!
If that doesn't improve post back and then we can see what else can be done ... It would be pointless buying a new interface etc if it's a. Cable/ input issue :)

Thank you for the responses!

Currently we have a Jensen DI for the loop side shooting to the board through about 150ft of balanced cabling. I'm not hearing anything "incorrect" per say (distortion, shorts, phasing, etc.) just more of a thin sound that I attributed to the built in converter. I did read that the IPad Mini (what we're using) has one of the more inferior DACs.

I'll try an IPad Air and also plug strait into the board to eliminate cables as an issue. If I get a camera connection adapter, I may try and get my Babyface talking with the IPad...?

Benj, do you notice an improvement in quality when using the iConnectivityAudio4+?

Yea going from using a crappy headphone cable I do see a better performance but I never use headphone jacks in a live situation. I've always used interfaces since the gain is higher.

Hey Benj,

Is the iConnectAudio4+ working with PRIME?

Friday, June 17, 2016 - 3:13pm

Hey Matt -I'm running the iConnectAudio4+ with Prime just fine. I have a looptimus connected to a mini-USB 4port hub connected to the iConnect's USB host port, and then I have my iPad Air connected to the iConnect's other USB port.

Everythings works so far. Now if we can get separate, selectable audio busses from Prime... :-)

Hey guys so I need some help with connecting my PODHD500X. To my mini iPad to run Prime. I tried using the iconnect midi adapter but doesn't seem to be working. From what I've been told I need the Apples lighting to USB Camera cable. But if I get that how do I go from the USB to a 5pin midi source on my POD?!!

Monday, July 11, 2016 - 11:22am

have you already programmed the POD to send out midi notes or commands?

Monday, July 11, 2016 - 12:48pm

I did program the POD but it wouldn't send any midi notes. I think it had to do with the 3rd party cable from what other have told me. They said to use a apple lightning camera cable. But my question then is how to I go from a USB to a 5 pin input into my Pod.

which iConnect MIDI adapter are you using? I'm currently using the iConnectAudio4+ -this is probably overkill for what you're doing, but that has a 5pin MIDI in port that can work with your iPad. I guess I'm asking becuase the iConnect devices usually have a lightning to USB or MIDI cable (depending on the product) so there's no need for the Apple USB camera cable.

Here's the adapter that I think you're looking for: http://www.iconnectivity.com/products/midi/iConnectMIDI1 -you basically connect the two MIDI jacks to your POD and the other end is a lightening plug that should just plug into your iPad.

So this is the cable I purchased. I plugged it into my mini iPad opened the prime app and it said the the midi had been connected. I tried to get my POD to communicate to send midi commands or notes but I couldn't get it to do anything.

I have never used a midi device so I'm pretty green as far as that goes. Do you have a POD and use it to run Prime?

Monday, July 11, 2016 - 10:47pm

That definitely looks like the right product. I'm assuming you got the Lighting version as pictured? that being the case, there should be no need for the Apple USB camera adapter.

I have the POD HD500 (older model). I have used it before to control prime and Ableton. I have since gotten a Looptimus pedal to run prime and use my POD for guitar effects only.

I'm assuming a few things here:
1) you have your MIDI IN and OUT jacks properly connected
2) you have selected your Effects Patch on the POD HD500 that you have programmed your MIDI notes
3) your MIDI notes are programmed properly (note, velocity, channel, etc.) and assigned to your footswitches
4)Your POD should be powered on and connected to the iConnect before plugging into your iPad

At this point, when you step on your MIDI programmed footswitch on the POD, it should be sending the MIDI note to your iPad via the iConnect straight into the lightning port.

Now you don't have the OnSong app do you? That app as a MIDI module that can display MIDI notes being sent. I have used that to verify which notes are being sent to the iPad. If you don't, there might be another iOS app that has the same function.

Let's start with this.

OK great unfortunately I returned the cable and will need to re-order it. Thank you so much for your help. Could you text me your number so that when I get my new cable we could do a in-service via over the phone? My number is 775-721-5816.

In your experience using your pod to control the prime app did it work well for you? Or is it just worth it to purchase the looptimus paddle? Right now I primarily use my acoustic to lead worship, I do use the pod for my electric but for the most part I lead from acoustic. So using my pod as a foot controller would be beneficial. Plus save me $300 for another panel. LOL

Tuesday, July 12, 2016 - 9:44am

Sure I'll text you my number. As for my experience, I think the POD is fine if you're only going to use it to control PRIME. However, the problem I ran into was when I wanted to lead from electric guitar and control prime. Because each footswitch was programmed to send specific MIDI notes, it would get complicated trying to program a patch on top of the MIDI notes (not even sure if this was possible). I eventually just got the looptimus and gave my POD to a young worship team member who was learning electric guitar (and kicking butt)!

I will say this though: the Looptimus is SIMPLE and flexible. No programming whatsoever. You can either use the Apple Lightning to USB adapter and plug straight into your Looptimus. Or you can use the cable that you'll re-order and use the lightning to 5pin connector that comes with that (in theory -I haven't used that configuration).

Let me know which route you go.

Awesome thank you!!

Hey Vu so I should get my cable soon when is a good time to call you? I still need you contact. Thanks

Thursday, July 14, 2016 - 10:17am

So did you decide to go with the iConnect and POD HD route? I just texted you my contact.

Can somebody please tell me with certainty if I can get more than two audio channels out this app ? At least a stereo send for the tracks and a separate mono out for click+guide ?

There must be a way ... Full on multitracks/stems, high quality audio, built in mixer , etc ... Then send it all out in mono ? What about phase ? Over lapping stereo fx ? Eq changes ? The mix sounds completely different and not in a good way ... I must be missing something ...

Help me out here friends

Thanks in advance

Currently you cannot use multiple outputs. You are limited to the headphone jack output.

"Currently..." BUT in the future...?

hi guys, the focusrite 18i20 is compatible with prime app for the multi outs, i need some help please, blessings

So the iconnect2 would be fine to use also because it also has 4 1/4" outputs correct? Or do you lose something in the iconnect2 that the iconnect4 has that I'm unaware of?
