Hi everyone,

We are loving prime. Running off a new (2017) iPad, and I’m looking to grab an interface in order to run stereo to foh, click & cues, separate instruments, etc, all the usual stuff.

I searched the forums a lot, and the iconnectivity iconnect seemed like the cat’s pajamas, everyone was recommending it, so I ordered one. It got here today and ironically a forum post popped up saying that no one recommends it anymore because it makes noise and has drops out, etc. Should I send this thing back and snag a Presonus 44vsl or Focusrite 18i8 or similar? Do they have similar software routing options? Does everyone run a powered usb hub or something in order to go from the iPad into the usb type “b” on the interface?

Is there another option? I know there are different brands out there...but the iconnect seemed set up for iPad, as it has a type “a” usb input, and doesn’t require a powered hub, just a power supply. Should I downsize and just run mono tracks on 1 channel and click on the other?

Sorry the post is so long. I guess it comes down to: should I send the iconnect back and go with a more reputable brand, or am I going to find problems with any interface I get? Thanks.

I have the iconnectaudio2+ and my main problem lately is it lost connection with the ipad often. And also it doesn't support usb hosting so you can't use a looptimus if you're planning on it adding it. I already bought a looptimus mini before i found this out. I suggest you return that and get the 4+ instead. I bought mine a year ago so I'm not sure if I can send it back for a 4+ or the new IconnectPlayAudio12 that they just released.

I currently use the iConnectivity 4+ without any issues. However, it's a bit of a pain to configure. I think I'm going to switch to a PreSonus 1818VSL

Cool, thanks for the response. I'll probably just return the iconnect2+ and go with an 1818. I see on Presonus' website that the vsl software is discontinued, due to newer Mac os. Does that change anything as far as software routing?

It shouldn't, but I haven't gotten mine yet to try it.

Someone from PreSonus just sent me this:
While some users have been able to use the AudioBox 1818VSL with their iOS devices via the camera connection kit, it's right for you to know that this is an unintended application of the device, and is an unofficial solution that has not been fully tested by PreSonus.

That kind of statement scares me. I'd like to get something that is intended to work with the iPad and doesn't require some workaround. The iconnect seemed like it was just that, intended to function specifically with an iPad and/or a Mac. My main objective is not so much to increase the musical/technical complexity, but rather to avoid drop outs, disconnects, and other anomalies that really detract from Sunday morning worship. Do you think I'd be trading one set of problems for another if I get another brand? Should I just go with the iconnect and hope for the best?

To be clear, I'm not running looptimus or any software besides Prime, from an iPad. And I mostly want the extra outputs for 1. running tracks in stereo, 2. click & cues, and 3. having a few extra options for foh mixing.

Thanks in advance.

I use the iConnect4 every Sunday. I have had zero issues beyond Looptimus working well with it(Solved that issue with a dedicated power for the Looptimus instead of USB power). Any noise we have had in the channels has always been the result of poor quality DI Box, Cable, or Connection to interface. I think you'll be happy with it.

That’s EXACTLY what I want to hear. I’ll go with it. Thanks for the input!

I ordered the Motu Ultralite mk4 yesterday... I'll let you know how it is.

I just got my iConnect 4+...I can't seem to get it to work at all. I am running the PRIME through iPad app with bus power from lightning connector to USB-B connector. I try and send output sound from any channel off the iConnect and it just gives a high pitch audio tonal noise. I've updated my PRIME software and have tried all the different outputs. One thing I've noticed is when I select an output on PRIME app it will allow me to select all the way up to channel 8...there aren't even 8 outputs on the iConnect. Not sure what to do. I've also tried 2 different Lightning to USB cables as well as many different audio cables.

Never mind guys. I got it working perfectly and just in time for the Saturday service. Wow what a huge awesome improvement in sound. Thanks Matt and to the whole LC team for such PRIME software and looptimus hardware.
