Tap Tempo In Ableton

Ableton

Alright so this doesn't happen very often but when it does I am wondering how I could fix it. When we are playing with loops live, our band doesn't always stick with the click and occasionally gets off sometimes. Is there anyway to sync both the tap tempo of Ableton with the loop tracks that have a click in them to speed them up or slow them down with a tap tempo button on my controller?

Yes! As long as that tap tempo button sends a MIDI CC or Note. Very easy. First make sure your controller is set up in Live correctly to do so. In preferences there is a MIDI tab. Your controller's input need to have "Remote" turned on. If you have any other problems or questions with this the build in Lessons under the help menu will walk you through setting up a controller. Next, in the top right corner of Live there will be a button named "MIDI." Click it and almost everything will turn blue. This will allow you to assign parameters to your controller. Click on the "Tap" button in the top left. Then hit the tap tempo button on the controller. If everything is setup correctly it will be mapped. Exit MIDI map mode by clicking the MIDI button in the top right again. Also check out the Nudge buttons. They don't change tempo but they help move the click to either catch up to the beat or slow it down.

Yep! Just make sure the track you are playing in Ableton is "warped" properly. Turn on warping in the Clip Overview window. Then assign a button on your foot controller to the tap tempo in Ableton, by using MIDI mapping within Ableton. You should be able to tap the tempo out. It can be hard to do sometimes in a live performance, but doable.
