Hello, I am currently in the process of triggering every element of my service via ableton. Meaning, lights, pro presenter, clicks and backing tracks. I would like to have have control from the stage as well as giving control to our production guy to run the service from the booth. What's the best solution to do this. I need something that will basically give control of ableton from two different locations. Any help would be great!

If I understand this correctly, your laptop would be the master controller under your responsibility on stage and the secondary laptop controller would be for the production guy in the booth. If they were both laptops, you could set up the secondary one in the booth to be over the lighting with it set up to recieve midi messages from the Ableton equipped laptop on stage. If you're wanting the booth setup to be able to control playback, etc... as well as the setup on stage, you might be able to midi map the primary computer to it. I'm not sure if that would work though. Here's a few links to something like you're describing: Part 1= http://youtu.be/6eFD8G8eI30 Part 2= http://youtu.be/78i7L0-FD_o The guru of "Ableton for everything," in my opinion, is Kristian Ponsford. You can probably contact him from this site as he visits it occasionally. Here's the way he does something similar to the above method by Russel Dunlop: http://youtu.be/6RfKeC-1cZg If you don't have enough funds for two laptops, you can repurpose any audio track in Ableton to be a video track. Ableton Live has been able to play video simultaneously with audio since Ableton Live 7. (The latest version is Live 9) I've played around with it, and had some pretty favorable results. You simply need to make sure you have video formatted for Ableton to deal with it. I believe it accepts mp4. I'm not sure how adaptable this would be for lighting though. You can chop, edit, repeat, replace, warp etc... any video just like you would a sound clip. I highly recommend this video because it shows the capabilities of Ableton in video editing that not a lot of people know about.... http://youtu.be/KKd6rVLUrwI

You can schedule some time with Kristian by purchasing his hour session on his web site http://www.iam-kp.com/ 2-3 hours skyping with Kristian and you'll be on your way to automated freedom

Here's a video by Will Dogget showing how to "Do it all" with Ableton, and probably raise even more questions for you... http://youtu.be/Y3t1Aw7fBBk
