For 16 years, the object of my worship was myself. I chased things that brought me worldly pleasure in an attempt to satisfy the burning desire I had for significance. I was in fact, as Ephesians 2 says, "dead in my trespasses and sins...following the course of this world...living in the passions of my flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind." These "passions" and "desires" included drugs and alcohol, popularity, relationships, etc. But God, being rich in mercy, gave me life on July 27, 1996, at Promise Keepers in Indianapolis, IN. In the Hoosier Dome among 62,000 other men, I was unable to resist the effectual call of the Holy Spirit as Tony Evans boldly preached that Jesus Christ was crucified, that He died, that He rose from the grave three days later and that the Father's wrath was quenched in that moment, making me alive together with Christ. In one moment I was separated from God with no hope, and in the next, I was eternally His, saved by grace and given hope.
